Medien Elocution

Zwischen einem Mann und einer Frau, vor einem Spiegel und einer Kamera; eine junge Frau versucht ihre Lippenbewegungen mit den Worten eines älteren Mannes zu synchronisieren – ein stiller Austausch von Sprache findet statt.
In Elocution wird die Verhandlung von Macht zwischen dem Mann und der Frau vorgeführt, die die Rollen von Eltern-Kind, Vater-Tochter, Lehrer-Schüler, Mann-Frau widerspiegeln. Kinderreime, Gedächtnisstützen aus der Kindheit, und Fragmente einer Italienisch-Stunde sind die Mittel des Austausches, während sie seine Worte nachahmt. Ihr Spiel erinnert an die Lippensynchronisation im Kino ebenso wie an den Prozess des Sprechenlernens. Diese Kontrollverschiebung zwischen den beiden reflektiert spielerisch das Konzept, dass das Kind durch den Vater in die Sprache eingeführt wird und es ist auch der Vater, durch den dem Kind kulturelle Konstrukte, wie die Zeit und der geteilte Raum, näher gebracht werden.

Between a man and a woman, in front of a mirror and a camera, a young woman tries to synchronise her lip movement with the words of an older man and a silent exchange of language takes place.
In Elocution a negotiation of power is performed between the man and the woman, reflecting upon the roles of parent-child, father-daughter, teacher-pupil, man-woman. Nursery rhymes, the mnemonic devices of childhood, and fragments of an Italian language lesson are the vehicle of exchange as she mouths his words. Their game brings to mind the lip-sync of cinema as well as the process of learning to speak. The shifting control between the two playfully reflects upon idea that the child enters into language via the father and it is through the father that he or she enters into other cultural constructions such as linear time and divided space.
