Cybermönche im Kloster Plasy / Tschechien

Ein Bett, ein Schrank, ein Tisch, ein Ofen... und ein PC mit Internetanschluss. Das ist das karge Interieur einer von den Fabrikanten 1996 eingerichteten Cybermönchs-Zelle im leerstehenden Zisterzienserkloster von Plasy in Tschechien. Hierhin ziehen sich vier tschechische und zwei österreichische TeilnehmerInnen jeweils drei Tage lang zurück. Ohne ihre Zellen zu verlassen, kommunizieren die Cybermönche nur via Internet mit der Welt. Tagebücher dokumentieren die Eindrücke vom Eremitendasein. Ein Versuch an der Grenze zwischen Einsamkeit und Informationsoverload im global village.

Cybermonks at Plasy Monastery / Czech Republic

A bed, a wardrobe, a table, a stove... and a PC with an internet connection. This is the spartan interior of a cybermonk's cell, furnished by Die Fabrikanten in 1996 in the vacant Cistercian monastery of Plasy in the Czech Republic. Four Czech and two Austrian participants retreat here for three days. Without leaving their cells, the cybermonks communicate with the world only via the internet. Diaries document their impressions of this hermit-like existence. An experiment on the border between solitude and information overload in the global village.
