Don't Look Back/Labirinto

Über den Titel nimmt Don't look back/Labirinto Bezug auf den antiken Mythos des Orpheus, der seine Geliebte Eurydike von den Toten befreien will und sich beim Aufstieg aus der Unterwelt nicht nach ihr umschauen darf. Der film zeigt wechselnde Gestalten in Rückenansicht, die sich nacheinander langsam von der Kamera entfernen. Ihr Gang wird immer wieder unterbrochen durch kurze bildliche Assoziationen zu Tod und Fegefeuer. Wie ein Schleier wird der Film von Bildstörungen überlagert, die das Geschehen der diesseitigen, vertrauten Welt zu entziehen scheinen. Die Erzählung wirkt Raum und Zeit enthoben. Sie wird zum filmischen Äquivalent des Mythos und schafft ein Bild für den schmalen Grat zwischen Leben und Tod.

The title Don't Look Back/Labirinto alludes to the ancient myth of Orpheus, who seeks to free his beloved Eurydice from the dead and must not look back at her as he ascends from the underworld. The film shows a succession of figures seen from behind, each slowly moving away from the camera. Their progress is repeatedly interrupted by brief visual associations with death and purgatory. Like a veil, the film is overlaid with visual distortions that seem to remove the events from the familiar, earthly world. The narrative appears to transcend space and time. It becomes the cinematic equivalent of the myth and creates an image of the narrow path between life and death.
